Most card apps show you one number and ask you to trust it. We'd rather show you where every number comes from.
The three markets
Every card has up to three prices, shown side by side and never blended into one.
- US — TCGplayer's market price, the reference for American collectors. In dollars, refreshed every night.
- Europe — Cardmarket's trend price, the reference across Europe. In euros, refreshed every night. The card page also shows Cardmarket's 30-day average.
- NL — our own measurement: the cheapest copy of that exact card listed on Cardmarket right now in English, Near Mint or better, by a seller in the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany. It's a price a collector in the Netherlands can actually pay, not a European average. In euros, re-checked on a rolling schedule with the most valuable cards checked most often.
Why the NL price only counts some listings
A "lowest price" only means something if every listing behind it is the same thing you want. So the NL price counts a listing only if it is:
- That exact card — the same set and number, so a reprint or a different version never stands in for it.
- English — a Japanese or German printing is a different card with a different value.
- Near Mint or better — a played copy is not worth a Near Mint price.
- From a seller in NL, BE or DE — close enough to post to the Netherlands quickly and without customs.
We check every card whose European trend is €1 or more. Below that it's bulk: we show the European trend instead and label it as such. About one card in ten has no qualifying seller at all, and we say so rather than widening the net until a number appears.
Why the NL price differs from the European trend
They measure different things. Cardmarket's trend is an average over every copy that sells across Europe, in any condition and any language. The NL price is one listing you could buy today, in English and Near Mint. On the cards we've measured so far the NL price is higher about two times in three and lower the rest of the time, which is exactly why we show both.
English cards only, for now
During the beta the catalogue is English Pokémon cards only, and every price is for the English printing. Japanese cards will follow after the beta.
Where the numbers come from
- US and European prices come from TCGplayer's and Cardmarket's published price guides, through TCGdex and pokemontcg.io.
- NL prices come from live Cardmarket listings, through a paid feed from cardmarketapi.com.
- Currency conversion, for binder totals that mix dollars and euros, uses the European Central Bank's daily reference rates.
Totals & history
- Your binder's value takes each card's NL price where it has one, otherwise its European trend, otherwise its US price converted to euros. Each is adjusted for the condition you enter; graded slabs are valued at the Near Mint price. You can also total your binder in any one of the three markets.
- Every price we record is kept, so every card builds up a price history, and your binder's value is recorded every night.
